Free photo story caption builder

A photo shows a moment. Your notes can explain who was there and why it mattered. Build a caption from details you know, with room for uncertainty and the story outside the frame. No image upload is needed.

No signup. Use it here, then print or save as PDF from your browser.

Your entries and opened files stay in this page. They are not uploaded or saved automatically. Save an editable copy before leaving or refreshing. Share only what everyone involved is comfortable sharing.

Give a photo its context

Describe the photo yourself, then assemble and edit a plain-text caption. No photo upload or AI is used; nothing is identified or guessed.

Add names or relationships you know. Use “unidentified” where needed.

Exact, approximate or unknown — preserve the uncertainty.

Add the occasion, memory or details you can support.

For example: a note on the back, or the person who identified the scene.

Record the agreed audience or restrictions. Check permission before sharing a photo or someone else’s story.

Only filled fields are included. This button replaces a previous caption only after you confirm.

How to use it

  1. Give the photo a working name so you can match the caption to the original file or album page.
  2. Add the people, place and date you know. Write 'around' or 'possibly' when a detail is uncertain.
  3. Add something the picture cannot show, such as what happened next, and name the source of the detail.
  4. Review the assembled caption, change the wording and copy or print it. The tool combines your words; it does not identify people or invent a story.

Keep the connection going

If the people involved are comfortable sharing, add the photo and your reviewed caption to Kinello's Story and choose its audience. Related memories can join a collection. Keep the original photo and caption in your own archive too; this web tool does not store them for you.
