Free family tree template

Put names to the people in your family story. This free three-generation family tree has seven spaces: a starting person, two parents or carers, and four grandparents. Fill it in together, online or on paper.

No signup. Fillable PDFs: type into the downloaded file in a PDF reader, or use the editor below.

Edit the seven spaces below. Nothing you type or open is uploaded. Save an editable copy before leaving; this page does not remember your entries.

How to use it

  1. Start with one person in the bottom box, then work upward. You can begin with yourself, a child or any relative.
  2. Add names and a short detail, such as a place or approximate birth year. Leave unknown details blank and ask relatives what they remember.
  3. Change the relationship labels for adoptive parents, step-relatives, carers or the people you call family. The lines group connections; they do not label anyone's biological or legal relationship.
  4. Save an editable copy to return later, or print your filled-in tree. For more than seven people, use the notes and start another sheet with a relative as its starting person. Write which sheet it connects to.

Keep the connection going

A tree is a starting point for a conversation. Ask a relative about one person on the page, then keep that story alongside a photo. Kinello brings a family tree, shared memories and private family chat together on iPhone and Android. This free worksheet is separate from the app; saved files are reopened here, not imported into Kinello.

Printing and privacy

The blank downloads fit A4 or US Letter. Use “Print / save as PDF” to keep your online version; your browser provides the printer or PDF destination. Check the preview before printing. Typed entries are not saved between visits or sent to Kinello.

The PDFs use landscape pages and editable form fields. Download and save your filled file in a PDF reader that supports forms; support varies between viewers. “Save editable copy” in the web editor downloads a small JSON file that you can reopen with “Open saved tree”. It contains the names you entered, so keep it somewhere private. This is a seven-person starter chart, not a full genealogy database.

You are welcome to print and share these sheets for personal family use. Keep an extra copy of anything important, and ask before sharing another person’s photo or story.
